The Cargo Technician is the crewmember that is in charge of handling all cargo-related requests, mailing items, and sorting and then distributing the contents of the warehouse.
The Hangar Technician is responsible for managing all basic Operations-related tasks. Their duties include handling mailing requests, managing bounties, reloading the ship's weapons upon orders, and sorting and distributing warehouse contents. They also serve as the reliable "grease monkeys" ensuring that shuttles are fueled, maintained, and ready to go at a moment's notice for expeditions.

Overview
Duties
The Cargo Technician has three responsibilities:
Operations Account
*Handle Cargo Orders
The Operations Department has an account with 10000 credits available for use. It is the Hangar Technician's duty to manage this account and ensure that it does not run out of funds. To maintain a healthy balance, you need to complete bounties, ship crates, ship processed ores (notably phoron and platinum), and charge for handling orders. The processed ores do not have to be inside a crate to be counted towards the account's funds. Ideally, the Operations Account should end each shift either breaking even or with a profit. The 10000 credits are a buffer, emergency funds, and for other Operations activities that might not generate profit.
*Manage the Disposals Mailing System
*Sort, and then distribute the contents of the warehouse

Duties
Bounties
Cargo Account
The most effective source of profit for the Operations Account, you can take on bounties listed on the Supply Console located in the Operations Bay. Open the Cargo Control program and select the Bounties tab to view the list of items. While some bounties can be completed by searching the warehouse, most of them require assistance from other departments. The best method to alerting other departments of active bounties is to print the bounty list using the print button at the top right of the Cargo Control program, then faxing the list to each department using the Requests Console. Once you obtain the required items, place them on the cargo lift platform and send the lift down. Then, claim your rewards in the Supply Console. Upon completing five bounties, you may request new ones.
The Cargo Department has an account with 5000 credits in it. You can charge people to ensure that it isn't drained of all funds, or ship crates, phoron, and platinum in order to add to the funds. The phoron and platinum must be inside a crate, or it will be lost, and not contribute to the overall funds of the cargo account. Phoron, platinum, and crates are worth about 100 credits each.

Handling Orders
Handling Orders
As the Cargo Technician, you will be expected to handle the ordering and distribution of ordered items, and to do your best to minimize the cost of the shuttle.
As the Hangar Technician, your responsibilities include handling orders, distributing items, and minimizing shuttle costs. To stay informed about crew requests, link your PDA to the ringer terminal and the Requests Console. This will ensure that you are promptly alerted to any demands or needs that arise.
#Order: Somebody can place an order for equipment or materials for their department, using the Cargo Order program. They will sometimes have a choice between suppliers. Each supplier will have a fee for the shuttle to go to them. The amount ordered from them, however, will not affect this fee. So the best policy is to order more at once, and from the same/few suppliers. You can also adjust the Cargo Handling fee, to make up the difference, if needed.
#Order: When a department needs equipment or materials, they can place an order using the Cargo Order program or ask you to do it for them. Retrieving items from stowage via the Cargo Lift incurs a fee on use. Combining multiple orders into a single use of the Cargo Lift can help reduce the fees for processing orders. Additionally, you can adjust the Operations Handling fee to cover any additional costs if necessary.
#Approve/Reject: If an order has been placed, and you can look at it in the Submitted section of the Cargo Control program. You will see the name of who has submitted it, and how much it costs. Clicking the Details option will allow you to see more information, such as what has been ordered, the reason for the order, and the individual prices of each ordered item. You may then Approve, or Reject the order, depending on who has ordered it, what has been ordered, and whether or not the funds for the order, either in the cargo account, or in their account, are available.
#Approve/Reject: To view an order that has been placed, go to the Submitted section of the Operations Control program. There, you can see the name of the person who submitted the order and its total cost. Clicking on the Details option will provide additional information, such as the items ordered, the reason for the order, and the individual prices of each item. Based on factors such as who placed the order, the items requested, and the availability of funds, you can either Approve or Reject the order. Ensure that funds are available either in the Operations Account, the requestor's account, or the department account of the requestor before approving an order.
#Ship: Now that you have one or more Approved Orders waiting to be shipped, you may send the shuttle to go pick them up. First, ensure the shuttle is away. Then, call it back. Remember when sending the shuttle away to ask if anyone is on it at the moment, or in one of the airlocks. Again, like said in the Order section, the less individual suppliers, and the larger amount of items being shipped, the cheaper the fee per item. So it may be best to wait, and try to ship multiple items at once, rather than send and recall the shuttle for each and every order.
#Ship: Now that you have one or more Approved Orders waiting to be shipped, you may send the Cargo Lift to go retrieve them. First, ensure the lift is away, and then call it back. Remember, before sending the lift down ask if anyone is on the lift platform, as the lift will not go down if anyone is standing on the lift platform. Again, as was stated in the Order section, the larger amount of items being shipped, the cheaper the fee per item. So it may be best to wait and try to ship multiple items at once, rather than send and recall the lift for each and every order.
#Deliver/Pay: Now that the shuttle is docked, and the order(s) are here, it is time to deliver them, and obtain payment for them. The easiest way is to call whoever ordered to Cargo, and open the Cargo Delivery program on a console, then open their order, and have them insert their ID and press the payment key. The funds will be added to the Cargo Account, and you can hand over their order. If the EFTPOS is set up by the HoP, you could charge them the amount needed with it, and then give them their order.
#Deliver/Pay: Once the lift has returned and the orders have arrived, it's time to deliver them and receive payment. If an order has been approved, you can accept payment in advance. To receive payment, simply use the Cargo Delivery program on a console or tablet and insert the customer's ID, select the payment tab, and press pay. If a department account needs to be charged, select the account button and select which department to charge. The funds will be deposited into the Operations Account, and you can give them their order. After delivering the order, ensure to register the order as delivered in the Cargo Delivery program. Insert the receiver's ID, select the payment tab, and press confirm delivery.

Sorting the Warehouse
Operations houses a large warehouse containing a variety of items that differ in their usefulness and utility. While there is no strict requirement to distribute these items to each department, it is advisable to at least organize the warehouse beforehand, grouping similar items in the same crate. Below is a guide on which items are most suitable for each department:
*Security: Any contraband, weapons, or security equipment.
*Medical: Any chemicals, medical tools, or medical supplies.
*Research/Machinist: Any advanced machine parts, robotic limbs, exosuit modules, hardsuits, steel, glass, phoron, gold, silver, diamonds and uranium.
*Mining:  Mining tools, magboots, kinetic accelerators, or lanterns.
*Engineering: Any EVA gear not given to mining, materials not given to research, tools, signs, and firefighting equipment (fire axes included).
*Commissary: Miscellaneous items that do not fit the criteria for another department, or are worth selling in the ship's commissary.
Anything not mentioned here may be distributed as you feel is best, but should be done so reasonably.

Be warned, the warehouse does, at times, contain dangers. Hostile creatures or drones can be present in the warehouse crates or roaming the warehouse floor, so carry caution when entering the warehouse or opening crates. Additionally, the side rooms of the warehouse can contain hazardous materials, such as nuclear waste or explosive fuel tanks.

Crates can be stored either in the warehouse or in the Commissary via crate shelves. These shelves can stack up to three crates in a single tile to conserve space. To place a crate on a shelf, simply click-drag the crate onto the shelf. To remove the crate, click-drag the same crate from the shelf onto an adjacent tile.

Equipment
Mailing
As a technician, you have a wide array of tools to help you help the station beyond the cargo console.
Mailing will allow you to distribute packages through the disposals system. However, lockers and crates, when mailed, will be flung from the disposals fairly violently, so take care and warn recipients ahead of time. The process for mailing is as follows:
*Using a roll of parcel paper, wrap your item/crate/locker.
*Grab a Destination Tagger (which looks like a red and black label maker) and set a destination.
*Mark the parcel with the destination.
*Put the item/crate/locker onto the belt, and take care not to fall into it yourself, or you will take a very brief, painful, and likely lethal ride to the mailing room and disposals crusher.
*Request your crate back from the department, if needed.
It is important to remember that anything not wrapped will be sent directly to the Disposals Crusher, while anything wrapped but not tagged will end up in the mailing room, so pay attention.

Reloading ship weapons
On specific occasions, you may be ordered to reload the Francisca, the Longbow, and the
the Grauwolf. You can find the ammunition for these weapons inside the Secure Ammunition Storage, in the Tech Storage west of the Operations Bay.

Managing the ship weapons requires coordination with the Bridge, and the use of a powerloader found in the gun compartments. The loading of weapons should not be performed until the Bridge requests it, both to minimize safety risks of moving munitions and to avoid awkward cases where the pre-loaded munitions are different to what the Bridge requests. When receiving loading orders from the Bridge, look for 3 key details: Which gun, type of munitions, and how many. After receiving a loading order, it is best practice to acknowledge the order.

The process of loading each weapon varies. Detailed instructions can be found on the Guide to Gunnery for both Longbow and Grauwolf. Regardless of weapon, certain practices should be maintained. Always ensure the doors into the Secure Ammunition Storage are closed and bolted, as well as the blast doors down. Warn the rest of the crew when transporting warheads to avoid incidents and accidents that might lead to accidental detonation. Lastly, alert the Bridge when the loading order is complete.

Autolathe
Orion Express Courier System
Sometimes, crewmembers will need simpler items that cannot be ordered - such as buckets, tools or beanbag shells for the bartender. The Autolathe covers these items - simply make sure they sign an equipment requisition form. A list of materials is available on the link provided.
Throughout a shift, you may receive black and white Orion Express packages from a delivery belt in the warehouse. This will be accompanied by a radio message that new deliveries are available. These packages can be delivered to their designated destination to generate funds for the Operations Department. The delivery process is as outlined below:

Mulebot
*Access Courier's Locker: Find the courier's locker, also situated at the back of the warehouse. Inside, you'll find essential supplies, including a cargo pack capable of accommodating up to two cargo packages.
Not available by default, they are orderable from Central. They function rather simply - simply drag a crate onto them, set up a destination and let it go and unload. By default, it should return once that's done - but you can activate a setting to let it stay there, for the recipients to unload the crate at their department and load it back - so that you don't have to hunt it down.

Of course, it IS electric - as such, once in a while, you will need to replace the power cell. To do so, unlock the controls, then simply open the maintenance panel with a screwdriver, remove the old power cell and insert a fresh one, before closing once more the panel with a screwdriver. Don't forget to put the depleted cell on the charger.
*Request Transportation: Seek assistance from a fellow crew member (like a Shaft Miner on the Spark, a Xenoarcheologist on the Quark, or a Bridge Crewman on the Canary) to secure transportation to the designated exoplanet or vessel.

Cargo Tug
*Make the Delivery: Upon arrival, navigate to the specified coordinates on the package and deposit it into the chute.
A relatively complex machine to use - the cargo tug is essentially a small train to manually transport multiple crates. To link it up, drag the chain link from the unhooked wagon to the hooked wagon (or tug). Make sure that the chain link is in the right direction, however - that can be ensured by pushing the cart into the tug/train.

To activate the tug's engine, locate the keys and turn them in the ignition (do not lose these keys as they will render the tug inoperable).
Couriers receive a 2% tip for each delivery, while the Operations Department receives the funds allocated on the package.
It is recommended for couriers to always have an escort to mitigate potential security risks, like local wildlife or unauthorized personnel trying to intercept packages.

To load the tug's platforms, simply place yourself firmly in front of the wagon and lift the crate onto it.
Shuttle Servicing
Shuttles making multiple flights during a shift will likely need refueling of either their primary thruster fuel, or their secondary thruster fuel. This is usually performed by a Hangar Technician. To refuel a shuttle, a wrench and crowbar are necessary. The process is as follows:
For the primary fuel
#Locate the CO2 canister on the shuttle. This is either in the main compartment of the shuttle, or in a compartment towards the rear for larger shuttles such as the Intrepid.
#Use the wrench to disconnect the canister.
#Bring the canister to the Fuel Bay located on the starboard side of the Intrepid Hangar.
#Place the canister on the rightside connector, using the wrench to connect the canister
#*Another CO2 canister may already be present. Swap the canisters when refueling.
#Turn on the CO2 pump to maximum output.
#Take the full canister back to the shuttle, and reconnect onto the fuel connector using the wrench.
For the secondary fuel
#Locate the fuel port, a light grey box usually towards the main airlock of a shuttle.
#Use the crowbar to open the fuel port, then an empty hand to remove the phoron tank.
#Refuel the phoron tank utilizing the phoron canister in the Fuel Bay located on the starboard side of the Intrepid hangar.
#Return the phoron tank to the fuel port on the shuttle.
#Use the crowbar to close the fuel port.
Alongside fuel, shuttles utilize a self-contained atmosphere during flight. Every shuttle has an air tank for the compartment atmosphere, with larger shuttles using a waste tank as well. At times, these tanks need to be refilled or empties, especially in cases where a shuttle lost atmosphere. These operations can be performed at the air station between the Intrepid and Quark hangars. Air canisters can be identified by their white paint scheme, while waste canisters are yellow with black markings. By default, the ports in the air station are already connected and on, so no additional prep is needed. After air has been replenished and waste purged, canisters should be returned to their ports. If additional help is needed, an Atmospheric Technician can be contacted.

The cargo tug is ALSO electric - and as such the power cell needs to be replaced, as well. This model of cargo tug features a panel and a latch - undo the panel with a screwdriver, extract the power cell from the latch using a crowbar, insert a new power cell then secure the panel back into place with a screwdriver.
Note: Some air tanks are utilized by the airlocks. They are typically positioned by airlocks, and do not have any pumps connected to them. Avoid refilling these tanks unless the airlock has run out of air. Standard airlocks, when open, will be connected to an air canister with 137 kPa of pressure. The air station fills canisters to 5 MPa, so adjustments will be needed to the supplying air pump if an airlock canister must be replenished.

Pneumatic System
Equipment
The Pneumatic system - also called mailing or disposals system. It spans the entire station, and the main terminal is located in the Mailing room. While you do not directly interact with it, you do initiate it's two main features.
The Operations Department has some tools that can assist you in supplying the ship.
Autolathe
The Autolathe can be filled with glass, steel, aluminum, and plastic in order to fabricate tools, radios, and other items which may be requested. There should be some materials in the Operations Office on a table, just so you can supply the Autolathe.

Trash Sorting
Tablet
All of the station's trash, originating from the disposals terminal, will end up on a conveyor belt in Mailing. Sort through the items for unusual/illicit/useful items, then activate both levers present in the room to sent it on it's way. All items that are not marked in the Mailing process proceeds to the Processing and Recycling center, where they are either ground into base materials or passed through unprocessed.
The tablet provided in Hangar Technician lockers is nearly identical to other PDAs, however it comes pre-loaded with various Operations applications that can be useful during shifts. The primary one of note is the Cargo Delivery program, which is utilized during order deliveries.

Mailing
Scanners
By far the most useful means of delivery, Mailing is a process that allows the various sensors of the system to send items to the various disposals outlets across the station. To mark an item for Mailing, the process is as follows:
A variety of scanners are available to Operations staff. These scanners all look the same, however have different colors to designate their purpose.
*Blue: The blue crate contents scanner prints a list of contents for any closed crate that it is used on. It is not required, however it is good practice to provide a list of contents for crates in the warehouse, especially those being stored for later or shipped to other departments.
**Note: The scanner does not work on locked crates.
*Yellow: The yellow price scanner can be used on any item to check for its value. Currently, the prices listed by the scanner are not accurate, therefore it should not be used.
*Green: The green exports scanner checks for the income an item will generate when it is exported on the Cargo Lift. It also checks whether an item is present on the bounties list.
*Red: The red destination tagger is not technically a scanner, however it shares a similar model to the other scanners. This device can tag any wrapped item, crate, or locker with a destination. When the item is placed into the disposals network, it will go to the set destination.

*Using a roll of parcel paper, wrap your item/crate.
Operations Tug
*Grab a Mail Tagging Tool (which looks like a red label maker) and set a destination.
A relatively complex machine to use - the cargo tug is essentially a small train to manually transport multiple crates. To link it up, drag the unhooked wagon to the hooked wagon (or train tug). To unhook wagons from the train, use a wrench on the wagon you want to unhook. All of the wagons start hooked to the tug at the start of a shift.
*Mark the parcel with the destination.

*Put the item/crate on the terminal's conveyor belts, and activate levers to send the parcel through the system.
To toggle the tug's engine, click the tug and select the button stating either "stopped" or "running" at the top of the interface. The keys start in the ignition at the start of a shift, however they can be removed by clicking the keys button on the tug interface. These actions can also be performed through a radial menu by ctrl-clicking the tug. Boarding the tug requires you to be adjacent to the tug body, then click-dragging your character onto the tug. To get off of the tug, use resist. This will place you in an open adjacent tile, which sometimes can be boxed in, so be careful about where you place the tug before getting off.
*(Optional)Request your crate back from the department

To load the tug's platforms, stand adjacent to an open wagon and click-drag the object onto the wagon. To remove an object from a wagon, click the wagon body. The object will be moved into your tile.

The cargo tug is powered by a power cell, which may run out and require replacement. To replace the power cell, use a screwdriver to undo the panel on the tug's exterior. Then, use a crowbar to extract the depleted cell from the latch, and insert a new power cell. Finally, secure the panel back into place using the screwdriver.

Beyond the Job
The cargo tug is a fast vehicle, and is capable of pushing others, or even running them over when tampered with. This can be annoying if not dangerous, and possibly incur charges from Security. It is recommended to remain in the center of large hallways, and to even announce the tug will be in operation before entering the halls.
Of course, these are the basic duties - you can be as proactive as you like (most command crew consider a pizza and/or party crate to be points well spent when there is a large surplus of points during a calm shift). And should you be alone, you most likely will need to do most of the job of a Quartermaster as well.

Duties

Operations Account

The Operations Department has an account with 10000 credits available for use. It is the Hangar Technician's duty to manage this account and ensure that it does not run out of funds. To maintain a healthy balance, you need to complete bounties, ship crates, ship processed ores (notably phoron and platinum), and charge for handling orders. The processed ores do not have to be inside a crate to be counted towards the account's funds. Ideally, the Operations Account should end each shift either breaking even or with a profit. The 10000 credits are a buffer, emergency funds, and for other Operations activities that might not generate profit.

Bounties

Handling Orders

As the Hangar Technician, your responsibilities include handling orders, distributing items, and minimizing shuttle costs. To stay informed about crew requests, link your PDA to the ringer terminal and the Requests Console. This will ensure that you are promptly alerted to any demands or needs that arise.

  1. Order: When a department needs equipment or materials, they can place an order using the Cargo Order program or ask you to do it for them. Retrieving items from stowage via the Cargo Lift incurs a fee on use. Combining multiple orders into a single use of the Cargo Lift can help reduce the fees for processing orders. Additionally, you can adjust the Operations Handling fee to cover any additional costs if necessary.
  2. Approve/Reject: To view an order that has been placed, go to the Submitted section of the Operations Control program.
  3. Ship: Now that you have one or more Approved Orders waiting to be shipped, you may send the Cargo Lift to go retrieve them.
  4. Deliver/Pay: Once the lift has returned and the orders have arrived, it's time to deliver them and receive payment.

  • Security: Any contraband, weapons, or security equipment.
  • Medical: Any chemicals, medical tools, or medical supplies.
  • Research/Machinist: Any advanced machine parts, robotic limbs, exosuit modules, hardsuits, steel, glass, phoron, gold, silver, diamonds and uranium.
  • Mining: Mining tools, magboots, kinetic accelerators, or lanterns.
  • Engineering: Any EVA gear not given to mining, materials not given to research, tools, signs, and firefighting equipment (fire axes included).
  • Commissary: Miscellaneous items that do not fit the criteria for another department, or are worth selling in the ship's commissary.

Mailing

Mailing will allow you to distribute packages through the disposals system. However, lockers and crates, when mailed, will be flung from the disposals fairly violently, so take care and warn recipients ahead of time. The process for mailing is as follows:

  • Using a roll of parcel paper, wrap your item/crate/locker.
  • Grab a Destination Tagger (which looks like a red and black label maker) and set a destination.
  • Mark the parcel with the destination.
  • Put the item/crate/locker onto the belt, and take care not to fall into it yourself, or you will take a very brief, painful, and likely lethal ride to the mailing room and disposals crusher.
  • Request your crate back from the department, if needed.

It is important to remember that anything not wrapped will be sent directly to the Disposals Crusher, while anything wrapped but not tagged will end up in the mailing room, so pay attention.

Reloading ship weapons

On specific occasions, you may be ordered to reload the Francisca, the Longbow, and the the Grauwolf.

Orion Express Courier System

Throughout a shift, you may receive black and white Orion Express packages from a delivery belt in the warehouse. This will be accompanied by a radio message that new deliveries are available. These packages can be delivered to their designated destination to generate funds for the Operations Department. The delivery process is as outlined below:

  • Access Courier's Locker: Find the courier's locker, also situated at the back of the warehouse. Inside, you'll find essential supplies, including a cargo pack capable of accommodating up to two cargo packages.
  • Request Transportation: Seek assistance from a fellow crew member (like a Shaft Miner on the Spark, a Xenoarcheologist on the Quark, or a Bridge Crewman on the Canary) to secure transportation to the designated exoplanet or vessel.
  • Make the Delivery: Upon arrival, navigate to the specified coordinates on the package and deposit it into the chute.

Couriers receive a 2% tip for each delivery, while the Operations Department receives the funds allocated on the package. It is recommended for couriers to always have an escort to mitigate potential security risks, like local wildlife or unauthorized personnel trying to intercept packages.

Shuttle Servicing

Shuttles making multiple flights during a shift will likely need refueling of either their primary thruster fuel, or their secondary thruster fuel. This is usually performed by a Hangar Technician. To refuel a shuttle, a wrench and crowbar are necessary. The process is as follows: For the primary fuel

  1. Locate the CO2 canister on the shuttle. This is either in the main compartment of the shuttle, or in a compartment towards the rear for larger shuttles such as the Intrepid.
  2. Use the wrench to disconnect the canister.
  3. Bring the canister to the Fuel Bay located on the starboard side of the Intrepid Hangar.
  4. Place the canister on the rightside connector, using the wrench to connect the canister
    • Another CO2 canister may already be present. Swap the canisters when refueling.
  5. Turn on the CO2 pump to maximum output.
  6. Take the full canister back to the shuttle, and reconnect onto the fuel connector using the wrench.

For the secondary fuel

  1. Locate the fuel port, a light grey box usually towards the main airlock of a shuttle.
  2. Use the crowbar to open the fuel port, then an empty hand to remove the phoron tank.
  3. Refuel the phoron tank utilizing the phoron canister in the Fuel Bay located on the starboard side of the Intrepid hangar.
  4. Return the phoron tank to the fuel port on the shuttle.
  5. Use the crowbar to close the fuel port.

Equipment

The Operations Department has some tools that can assist you in supplying the ship.

Autolathe

The Autolathe can be filled with glass, steel, aluminum, and plastic in order to fabricate tools, radios, and other items which may be requested. There should be some materials in the Operations Office on a table, just so you can supply the Autolathe.

Tablet

The tablet provided in Hangar Technician lockers is nearly identical to other PDAs, however it comes pre-loaded with various Operations applications that can be useful during shifts. The primary one of note is the Cargo Delivery program, which is utilized during order deliveries.

Scanners

A variety of scanners are available to Operations staff. These scanners all look the same, however have different colors to designate their purpose.

  • Blue: The blue crate contents scanner prints a list of contents for any closed crate that it is used on. It is not required, however it is good practice to provide a list of contents for crates in the warehouse, especially those being stored for later or shipped to other departments.
    • Note: The scanner does not work on locked crates.
  • Yellow: The yellow price scanner can be used on any item to check for its value. Currently, the prices listed by the scanner are not accurate, therefore it should not be used.
  • Green: The green exports scanner checks for the income an item will generate when it is exported on the Cargo Lift. It also checks whether an item is present on the bounties list.
  • Red: The red destination tagger is not technically a scanner, however it shares a similar model to the other scanners. This device can tag any wrapped item, crate, or locker with a destination. When the item is placed into the disposals network, it will go to the set destination.

Operations Tug

A relatively complex machine to use - the cargo tug is essentially a small train to manually transport multiple crates. To link it up, drag the unhooked wagon to the hooked wagon (or train tug). To unhook wagons from the train, use a wrench on the wagon you want to unhook. All of the wagons start hooked to the tug at the start of a shift.

The cargo tug is a fast vehicle, and is capable of pushing others, or even running them over when tampered with. This can be annoying if not dangerous, and possibly incur charges from Security. It is recommended to remain in the center of large hallways, and to even announce the tug will be in operation before entering the halls.
