Cytherean Media Network & The Martian Pinnacle

Two contesting newspapers focused on reviewing works of entertainment.

Lovers of the Blue

A movie from A* Studios. Two wonderful, mystical Bluespace creatures explore themselves, learning the true meaning of their own feelings. The movie contains no dialogue, but has a Skrellian soundtrack.
Budget: 25000 电
Director: Kii Maqalala (Skrell, Mars)

Cytherean Media Network: ★★☆☆☆

A horribly droll, monotonous movie. The special effects look very fake, and that seemed to be the focus of the movie. Perhaps the meaning would have been more obvious on a rewatch, but I do not like watching movies that I do not understand. All in all, it just left me yawning in my seat. If you're expecting a fine romantic comedy - don't watch this movie and don't spend 2 hours of your life like I did. I will, however, give it a star for trying to capture bluespace on film.

The Martian Pinnacle: 8/10

A surely delightful treat for all lovers of the egait ztush genre. Despite its small budget, it has very neat special effects, evoking old techniques as a nod to such classics as Twelve Pointed Black Star. The plot is very simple, yet full of deep symbolism that you can see on the second rewatch, especially in the ending of the movie that had a lot of foreshadowing before it. Ending their stories on a bittersweet is not quite Kii Maqalala's style, but they pulled it off perfectly anyways, especially as the blue cacophony of bluespace shapes fades into ending credits. This is not a movie for everyone, nor is any of Maqualala's films, but it has its own niche which it occupies well.
