Firearm Handling Tips

Before you even look at a gun, there’s a few helpful tips that will go a long way in improving your time, and your crewmates’ time, when you’re using firearms.

Check the Safety!: Most guns will have a safety. This can be toggled by Ctrl+click’ing on the gun itself. Green ‘S’ is for Safe, Red ‘F’ is for Fire. If you don’t need the gun actively, having it on safe can prevent accidentally firing into a wall, or friend if you’re not being mindful of where you’re clicking. Additionally, if you’re on ‘Harm’ Intent, and you click with a gun on safe, you will immediately flip the safety to off and fire at your target in one go.

Mind Your Aim!: If you’re fighting mobs, aim for the chest on your targeting doll (NumPad 5 will do this immediately). Mobs are HP bags, they don’t have specific body parts, but your fellow crew does. If they’re wearing armor, the chest is almost always going to be the most heavily armored, or the only part of them armored at all. No need to get fancy when cleaning up Greimorians, center mass!

Make a Macro!: For ‘unique-action’. So many guns have a usage for a verb its practically impossible to git gud if you’re trying to fumble around and click the little button in the HUD. Notably, pump action shotguns, break action shotguns, bolt action rifles, and most revolvers make use of this to reload them in a timely manner.

Manage Your Movement!: You should almost never be on help intent once fighting occurs, getting into a shuffling dance with someone trying to retreat is a fantastic way for you both to receive bodily harm. Every intent but help will have you being bumped out of the way instead. Be mindful of where you're standing too, always try and have a clear path into and out of a fight.

Firearms Overview

Firearms is a broad term referring from things as simple as a crossbow to as complex as a X-Ray laser or a railgun.

This overview goes over every firearm you can find on the server.

.45 Caliber and Its Weapons

.45 is a staple of humanity, even after hundreds of years of pistol research and design, and countless very self-important voices on the extranet declaring the caliber having long since outlived any sort of usefulness with the introduction of 9mm, with an equal amount declaring ‘stopping power’ in an almost sort of ritualistic chant to resolve arguments. They show no sign of ceasing any disagreements.

.45 Ammunition

We’ll discuss the functionality and numbers of specific ammunition types here.

Pattern 5 Pistol

The Pattern 5 Pistol is the standard-issue sidearm for the Civil Guard, San Colette’s local military force. Loosely based on the standard 9mm pistol of the Solarian Army, the P5 fires a larger .45 round intended for use against heavier targets. The P5 is produced by the San Colette Interstellar Armaments Company (CAISC) and is often found abroad due to its rugged construction Limited run models with shortened slides and wooden panel grips are more expensive, and belong to people of some notable station. Some models have been modified to allow fully-automatic fire, and sport a prominent vertical grip and muzzle compensator to aid in control.

Bulky and heavy, the Mk58 is nonetheless used by security forces and law enforcement for its ease of use, low maintenance requirement, longevity, reliability - and most of all, extremely inexpensive price tag. A trademark of NanoTrasen security forces. It uses .45 rounds. Some models sport wooden panels on the grip. Mk58-A machine pistols have been modified for fully-automatic fire from the factory and sport a collapsible shoulder stock for better control. They additionally eject magazines on empty, and play a short alarm to alert the user it has done so.

The National Police purchased a large number of K45s for their patrol units due to reports that service revolvers were inadequate at stopping rampant IPCs. The K45-P variant specially designed for the police forces is chambered in the organization's preferred .45 caliber and is limited to 3-round bursts due to the relatively limited firearms training of National Police officers.

10mm Caliber and Its Weapons

10mm Auto is a powerful caliber designed for usage in semi-automatic pistols. 10mm experienced a surge in popularity as armor became more and more ubiquitous in civilian markets. Not many militaries have adopted its usage, but many mercenary groups swear by it in submachine gun platforms, while ironically heavily armored mercenaries featured prominently in the marketing for the Mk1 Everyman pistol. We don’t recommend facing down anyone with only five shots of any caliber.

Unfortunately, 10mm is a bit lackluster on the server statswise, just being a 9mm

Mk1 Everyman pistol

NanoTrasen's first marketed firearm design, the Mk1, better known as the Everyman, was an instant hit - though it is a crude, stripper clip-fed design with a very small capacity, the Everyman is absurdly inexpensive and famously reliable, and is now one of the most common weapons found in the Orion Spur.

CA-25E submachine gun

The Colettish Armaments Model 25 SMG is a typical product of the San Colette Interstellar Armaments Company (CAISC). Rejected by the Solarian military due to competition with the Zavodskoi M470-L, the CA-M25 was repurposed into the Colettish Armaments Model 25 Export (CA-25E) and has found reasonable success in mercenary groups across the Orion Spur. Recently many have found their ways into the hands of violent non-state actors in the Corporate Reconstruction Zone, where they contribute to the further destabilization of the region. Curiously, these models typically have a filed-off serial number or no serial number at all.

Nam-Kawada revolver

The Nam-Kawada model .45 caliber revolver, named after its two inventors, is an adaptation of an old Zavodskoi design designed to be easily made from colony ship autolathes. The original design was first introduced in 2307 due to a growing need to arm the nascent Konyang National Police (then known as the Suwon Colonial Constabulary) in the face of both wildlife and the occasional criminal activity. The lack of a need for an upgrade, as well as institutional attachment to the design, has led to its continued use for almost two centuries.

9mm Caliber and Its Weapons

9x19mm had its origins with humanity pre-World War 1 within Austria, and quickly exploded in global popularity as militaries and law enforcement agencies began the shift to submachine guns and self-loading pistols. Now on the galactic scale of things, 9mm remains in many of the same applications, even as many decry the round as far too weak for modern military (and some even so far as *civilian* applications, usually followed by Unathi cross-chest density diagrams). The round shows no sign of disappearing.

Moonlight pistol

The Zavodskoi Interstellar Moonlight 9mm can be found in the hands of just about anyone imaginable - special operatives, common criminals, police officers, the average Joe - on account of the time-tested design, low price point, reliability, and ease of concealment. Having a threaded barrel helps, too, and it isn't uncommon to see the Moonlight as a prop in spy films, suppressed.

The Mk21 Blackjack is a ballistic sidearm developed and produced by NanoTrasen. With all the bells and whistles of a modern, quality police pistol, the Blackjack's main drawback is the notoriously nippy recoil - 9mm in such a small package can be unpleasant for the average shooter.

.357 Caliber and Its Weapons

Hard hitting and defeating light armor with ease, it has its place in non-military applications from hunting large game to disabling ‘standard’ robotic elements for relatively cheap. In the hand cannon format you frequently find it in, it’s become symbolic of the ancient, old, and now today of the ‘cowboy’. An idealized space-loner against a harsh unforgiving world to make it home. In places where the Imperial Dominian military’s influence is felt, .357 portrays more as a symbol of authority, with decisions made with a single, deafening shot.

4.6mm Caliber and Its Weapons

4.6mm was developed at the turn of the 21st century to meet the demand for an armor piercing submachine, giving birth to the Personal Defence Weapon concept. It found limited success at the time, but All-Xanu Armed Forces revived the caliber into relevance. Many entities throughout the Spur now make use of it, where armored opposition is expected.
