The Alliance of Sovereign Solarian Nations (ASSN), commonly referred to as SolGov, the Sol Alliance, the Second Sol Alliance, the Second Alliance, and sometimes the Alliance, is a federal union of 23 member states, 15 Associated States, and 112 dependencies. All 23 member states and 79 of the Alliance's dependencies are located within the [[Background summary#Inner Colonies|Inner Colonies]]. The remaining 33 dependencies and all 15 associated states are located within the [[Background summary#Mid Colonies|Mid Colonies]]. With control over 188 systems of significant population and a population of about 20.8 billion, the Sol Alliance is by far the largest polity within all of [[Background summary#Known Space|known space]]. It is arguably the most culturally and linguistically diverse entity within known space, owing primarily to the age of its colonies and its control over the [[Sol|Sol system]] and [[Sol#Earth (Sol III)|Earth]]. The capital of the Sol Alliance is SAAS Nova Concordia, in orbit over [[Sol#Mars (Sol IV)|Mars]] in the Sol system.

Large-scale extraterrestrial colonization began in the 2070's, followed by the first extrasolar colonies in the 2140's. In the year 2140, the United Nations formed the Alliance of Solarian Colonies (ASC), the first incarnation of the Sol Alliance, to oversee the colonization of other star systems. Following the First Interstellar War of 2278-2286, tensions between the Earth and the Inner Colonies grew, eventually culminating in the Great War. The Great War and the devastation of Earth dealt a crippling blow to the Alliance. In 2320, with the signing of the Treaty of Deimos, the Alliance of Solarian Colonies was officially disbanded and the Alliance of Sovereign Solarian Nations was formed. The Sol Alliance took its modern form following the Secession Crisis of 2376 and the resulting wars.

===Administrative Divisions===
The Sol Alliance is divided into Member States, Dependencies, and Associated States.

Member States are represented in the Alliance Senate and possess varying degrees of autonomy. They can comprise anything from one to five star systems. The Alliance Charter grants certain rights to member states, which can only be revoked by amending the Alliance Charter. The degree of autonomy varies by member, with certain members such as the Eridani Federation retaining near-complete control over internal affairs, while others such as Sol maintain only negligible autonomy.

Dependencies contain the vast majority of Alliance systems; they are sparsely populated systems with little to no control over their internal affairs, which are subject to all Alliance laws, although day-to-day operations are left to locally elected legislatures or corporate sponsors.

Associated States are independent states which have agreed to turn over control of their external affairs to the Alliance in return for military protection and economic aid. Associated states reserve the right of secession and have ''de jure'' control over their internal affairs, though the prerequisites attached to Alliance aid gives the Alliance considerable influence.

As of 2456, there are 23 member states, 112 Dependencies, and 15 Associated States.

===Institutions of the Sol Alliance===
====Alliance Senate====
The Senate is the 'upper house' of the Alliance Assembly. Senators are appointed for five year terms by the government of their constituency rather than by direct election. There are currently 230 seats in the Senate, with each member state sending a delegation of ten senators. Each senator has a 'voting weight' directly proportional to the population of their constituent. As only member states can appoint senators, dependencies and associated states are not represented within this chamber. Associated States are limited to sending one non-voting observer each.

Special powers accorded to only the Alliance Senate include:
*Approval of changes in borders between the member states and dependencies of the Sol Alliance;
*Approval of a decree of the Executive Council on the introduction of martial law;
*Approval of a decree of the Executive Council on the introduction of a state of emergency;
*Approval of international treaties.
*Approval of nominations for the Chairman of the Executive Council
*Approval of nominations for ministers of the Executive Council
Senators tend to be senior politicians with decades of experience. There is no term limit.

====Popular Assembly====
The Popular Assembly is the 'lower house' of the Alliance Assembly. Assembly-persons (often called 'legislators') are directly elected for five year terms by Sol Alliance citizens with member state citizenship residing within a member state or qualifying dependency. There are 5000 seats within the Alliance Assembly, which are divided among the member seats by population. The few dependencies which surpass the minimum population threshold (currently 4.16 million) are also granted representation within the Alliance Assembly. All other dependencies go unrepresented.

The Popular Assembly is the only body able to submit spending bills. It also has the power to nominate a Chairman of the Executive Council, who must then be approved by the senate.

====Executive Council====
The Executive Council is the executive branch of the Sol Alliance and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the government. It is headed by the Chairman of the Executive Council, informally known as the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is selected by the Popular Assembly and is normally the leader of the dominant political coalition. They are in charge of appointing administrators to head the various government agencies, determining the priorities of the government, and overseeing the operation of the various government agencies.

======Alliance Security Council======
The Alliance Security Council (Or ASC) is a body of government officials serving as the primary forum used by the Chairman of the Executive council for considering security and foreign policy matters with his senior security advisors and Cabinet officials.

Attendees of ASC meetings can be sorted into three groups; Statutory Attendees, Regular Attendees and Invited Attendees.

The Sol Alliance, often just addressed as “The Alliance” or sometimes just “Sol” is a strong federation of the core colony worlds originally settled by the Humans from Earth. It is a democracy de jure, however power within the Alliance often falls into the hands of a number of influential and wealthy 'inner worlds' which serve as a sort of aristocracy, having the largest populations in human space after Earth was bombarded. Until recently, these inner colonies have held power nearly since the Alliance's founding. However, in the last election Salvatore Abbiati from the Jovian moons won in a landslide. The Alliance is emerging from an marked era of economic stagnation and territorial contraction. This period was headed by the isolationist “Sol” party, which has since been ousted by Abbatis' “Oath” party.

The Alliance began as an evolution of the UN designed to administer all colony worlds. As the inner-colonies grew, the Alliance gained more power until it gained enough political and military clot to declare itself ''the'' governing body of humanity. Alliance politics during these first couple centuries of Alliance rules are best described as 'Earth' vs the 'Inner-Colonies'. Earth was by far the most populated place is human space, but relied on the colonies for raw resources to keep it alive. Earth also viewed the colonies as 'hers' and a strong sense of 'Earth-planetism' ensured that Earth was always draining more and more resources from the colonies. The Alliance became split on colony and Earth lines, eventually culminating in the first Alliance Civil War. The populated worlds of the Sol System, including Earth, were extensively damaged as a result of the War, and it has taken more than a century for them all to recover. Today, the Alliance is a 'Inner-colony centric' government, reflecting the prestige of the most developed, populated and prosperous planets in human space.

The Alliance is an extremely diverse society, with no specific ethnic group of any kind making up a majority, at most holding a plurality. More than 31% of the population is composed of minority ethnic groups spread across the Sol system and the colonies, both in major population centers and in a handful of ethnic enclaves. Socially, the Alliance is a rather pleasant place to live as-long as you’re not too insistent on being involved in the political system. It is among the more liberal of the empires, with tolerance, social equality and opportunity seen as the birth-right of all mankind, not just those citizens of the Alliance. The Alliance is by far the most powerful of all Human governments, with only the Skrellian Confederation being near an equal in power, wealth and technological advancement. Religious Freedom is also viewed by Solarians as being integral to Human rights, and as such Sol is a secular society where government interference with personal religion is not just frowned upon, but outright forbidden by law.

Politically, the Sol Alliance is a quagmire. With two centuries of codified laws complicating the electoral process to an almost byzantine degree. Furthermore, the vast majority of politicians come from a pseudo-aristocracy from the inner-most worlds which over the centuries has gained a fearsome foothold in matters political and governmental. While officials outside of these ‘families’ are somewhat common, they usually are found in lower ranking positions. Most seats on the Sol Senate are held by the 'political families' or those affiliated with them.

The executive branch of the Alliance divests its power into three individuals. While usually being referred to as an executive Councillor. The three Councillors are, the leader of the majority/plurality party (Chief Councilor), The Executive Minister of the Defense Staff, and the Executive Minister of Commerce. The leader of the majority party takes the role of head of the executive council, while the two unelected officials are viewed as subordinate, though both other councils can, together, veto an action of the Chief Councilor. Though this method, an unstable or otherwise unreliable leader can have his power checked by the other two Councillors, mitigating the damage they are capable of inflicting. On the reverse, this can render an otherwise talented head counselor incapable of doing his duties if he is not well-liked by the other Councillors.

The Sol Alliance is the most advanced and technologically sophisticated entity in Human space, with possibly only the Skrell exceeding them in their technological advancement. A specific piece of technology that is critical to what the Alliance is today is the Warp-gate network present in low orbit of each and every garden or developed core world. This network of transit stations connected to their host-worlds by orbital elevators. Each has anywhere from one, to twenty wormhole-gates which can connect to any other gate in the network allowing for near-instantaneous travel to any other gate. These gates are roughly 3 meters tall and 3 meters wide, with a small tram and rails connected into its horizon. Allowing a tram of 20 people to cross 60 light years from one side of the Alliance to the other in mere moments

The wormhole network is integral to how the Alliance is today. With this invention, cheap, nearly instantaneous travel across the Alliance's wealthiest worlds is available to all. An average trip through the gate costing less than 100Cr. Taking advantage of their superior agricultural technology, Alliance worlds manage to achieve low population densities despite its massive population. The Alliance prides itself on building comfortable settlements while simultaneously leaving the vast majority of nature on settled planets untouched. The relative peace and prosperity of humanity's most powerful nation was the main factor allowing the development and creation of these wonders of modern technology, as they are far too expensive, advanced, and tempting a target in the less-developed outer-colonies.

Though the Alliance was isolated politically and economically until extremely recently. They are now gearing up for heightened trade with both the outer and fringe colonies, powered by bluespace drivers. The Alliance is by far the highest exporter in Human space, trading medical supplies, ship-parts and industrial equipment and luxury goods for foodstuffs, refined plasma and other natural resources.

The Alliance was founded early in the recent era, as a combined effort of Humanity to successfully leave the planet spurned by fears of economic collapse due to resource depletion. Slowly however, the Alliance began assuming more duties until it declared itself the governing body of humanity.

Shaped over time by a series of extremely damaging civil wars, the Alliance has retreated from her outer-most colonies, slowly shrinking over the centuries. The Alliance has set down her border at a roughly 75 ly bubble around Sol. Its borders are ferociously guarded by elements of the Alliance Navy and few rival navies has attempted to brake the border. However, an invasion of the Alliance isn't all that necessary: For the past several centuries, the outer-most Alliance systems have been braking away, joining various outer-colony empires.

Since the election of Salvatore Abbiati, things have changed in the Alliance. With the loyalty and support of the Minister of the Defense Staff and Minister of Commerce, Abbiati has been able to force reforms through the Alliance Senate, crippling the power of the old families and opening the upper echelons of the government to the lower-class. However, the Alliance is coming to realize the uncomfortable reality that not only do they rely on NanoTransen to keep the economy going, they may be exerting a dangerous amount of influence over Alliance affairs. The current administration is also highly suspicious of the conditions behind the forming of the Tau Ceti Free Trade Zone, not to mention what amounts to the loss of one of its core systems.

The year is 2456CE (Common Era), and Humanity has spread amongst the stars like a plague, in less than 400 years, Humanity has left crumbling Earth and clawed her way across the stars, more than 100 light years in all directions. Sheparded on this path by the charismatic and effective leaders of the Union of Sol, for more than a century things looked bright for Humanity and her children. Alpha Centauri, Tau Ceti, Sirius, Epsilon Eridani and dozens more systems fell under her possession, nearly a hundred garden worlds in-all. But, the lower nature of Humanity was not vanquished.

 

Rebels across Human space, yearning for the independence their forefathers once held. Rose up in arms for years, bringing war into the hearts and minds of Humankind after a century of peace. The Union held firm in these wars, but her back was broken by her childrens' betrayal. Knowing that attempting to stand her ground would warrant a return to the dark ages of the past, Mankinds' government withdrew, leaving all worlds, all humans outside of the 30ly 'safe zone' around Sol to fend for themselves.   

 

In the wake of the Unions’ withdraw, three dozen ‘empires’ have awoken, clawing their way from single colonies to star-spanning empires covering light years, Humanity had found itself fractured once again.  Beyond these empires lay countless ‘outer colonies’, too weak to conquer each other yet too strong to be conquered.  

However, Humanity is not alone in this vast sea of stars.  The amphibious Skrell, feline Tajara, reptilian Unathi and plant-like Dionaea are but a few of the races of this galaxy.  Some, like these are supportive to the fate of mankind, others apathetic and a select few horrors actively seek their destruction.  Compared to the wroth of your fellow man, these horrors are but mosquitos to the majority of Humanity, as is it widely known. That Humanity is its’ own worst enemy.  

It is an age of progress, it is an age of death an age of war, it is the age of Mankind.  

<h2>The Trade zone </h2>

Welcome to the Tau-Ceti free trade zone, the sole Nanotrasen administered system within the Sol safezone. You are assigned to the N.S.S. (Nanotrasen Science Station) Aurora floating in the middle of the Romanovich cloud at the edge of the system  

Until recently, the Union has been in a state of collective isolation allowing no trade and no immigration or emigration.  However, the isolationist party has lost power and the new administration has opened up the border to trade, which is centralized in the Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani free trade zones, where traders and transstellar companies can hawk their wares under laissez faire policies (Under the benevolent watch of N.T and the E.F. of course.)

The most common currency in Human space is the Union of Sol credit, which is created and minted by the Union of Sol and it’s constituent territories.  It is represented by Cr (as in 5,000Cr).  While technology is relatively advanced living standards in some areas of the frontier are deplorable, some colonies even exist in a purely agricultural state, completely incapable of reaching off-world.  

<h2>Gettin’ Paid</h2>

Tau Ceti, since its’ transfer to Nanotrasen control, has essentially been transformed into Nanotrasens’ private playground in the safe zone.  However, N.T. HQ is far in the depths of the colonies and as such, direct control of their fief is nigh impossible.  Full background checks are  unlikely to turn up much, even with Union assistance as many flood into the trade zone from the barely governed frontier colonies.  This byzantine situation has allowed many unsuitable individuals into high positions as loyalty in this realm is ‘by your word’ and promotions come quick to those who prove capable.

Humanity, the children of Sol or whatever you wish to call them.  Are the most prevalent species in known space, with more territory under their control than all other known species combined.  They are the owners of most transstellar corporations and are generally noted as the most common species in explored space.  Disunited and warring, few meaningful terms can used to describe the species as a whole  

Humanity has largely gotten over its problem regarding sexism by this age, with females being seen as equals to males, though some pockets of stubbornness remain.

An amphibious species whose passion lies in the field of the combined sciences, the Skrell are the oldest and most advanced species present on the N.S.S. Aurora.  Their world is covered from pole to pole in massive swamps, bogs and the occasional jungle.  A world where their amphibious qualities are quite well used.  Gender is meaningless to the Skrell, as they don’t have an attachment to sexuality as Humanity does.  Simply being another task taken to ensure the production of children.  

While Humanity has largely overtaken the Skrell in the realm of colonization, the Skrell maintain a strong confederation of colonies roughly 3/4th the size of the Sol safe zone, making them one of the largest entities in known space.

The fierce and warlike Unathi are a reptilian race, a relative newcomer to the stars.  Unlike all other known species, the Unathi are not the first species to live upon their world,  before them came a more advanced race that plunged their jungle world into nuclear fire and turned it into the desert world it is today. 

Unathi have strict gender lines which are well defined and breaking them is highly taboo. Leading to the most sexist society of any known species.

The Unathi are least advanced of all known species, barely capable of reaching orbit, let alone colonizing another world due to their fractured status and infighting.

Capital of largest entity:  Hadii’Tamij, Adhomai - S’randarr

The newest species to the stars to be employed upon N.S.S. Aurora, the Tajara are a species fresh out of bondage.  Until very recently the species was enslaved by their own leaders and only escaped with support from Human transtellars and empires.  They are a felinoid species from the cold world of Adhomai in the S’randarr system.  

Their world in the past was generally quite rich minerally and culturally, but decades of slavery destroyed both of those as education was eliminated and entire clans destroyed, and entire mountain ranges excavated to fuel the Overseer regime.  

Both sexes fought equally in the revolt against Overseer oppression, which has earned the females who were previously somewhat oppressed to be elevated to equal in Tajaran society.  

<h3>Dionaea </h3>

Home System: Epsilon Ursae Minoris

The dionaea are a stellar oddity of sorts, each ‘individual’ in-fact being a collective of omnivorous, extremely slow metabolism plant like creatures that in themselves are clusters of smaller organisms.  This race is rather odd as they express a great degree of flexibility in their structure, capable of assuming  hundreds of shapes and sizes.  From an individual nymph to giant ‘hives’ in space consisting of thousands of nymphs.  They were discovered in orbit of a trinary star system by Skrell explorers in 2294, which made it nigh impossible to contact them due to this hostile environment  

Dionaea, are asexual as they spread via seeds. And when in their early ‘nymph’ state, they are known to take blood samples of nearby creatures in-order to evolve and learn quicker than they would without such samples.  As they and the Skrell have the closest relationship, it is not totally unknown for Skrellian civilian explorers to travel in habitat modules encased in a dionaea gestalt.  With these craft, they spread their warbly call across the cosmos. 

Introduced to Humanity by the Skrell, the Dionaea enjoy warm relations with the vast majority of Human empires and governments.  

<h3>IPC</h3>

Integrated Positronic Chassis, or IPCs for short. Are a recently created artificial species, engineered and designed by roboticists at Nanotrasen Biomedical.  They have existed for roughly the last twenty years and have only in the last five or so gained any rights or privileges.  After working long and hard in corporate service, and after amassing a large stock of credits, an individual IPC is allowed to purchase itself and buy itself to freedom.  

Gender is pointless to IPCs, though some can and do prefer a certain pronoun to another.  Personality quirks can ensure one acts more ‘feminine’ and another more ‘masculine’. The vast majority however are gender neutral and more mechanical in their personality.  

IPCs have yet to prove themselves as a ‘race’ and as such, command positions are highly restricted to them.  All but the first few models are utterly restricted from command positions, and even these are rare.

The newest species in explored space, the Kocasslani are a hostile, zealous race with an intense racial hatred towards the Skrell due to an unfortunate expedition taken into their territory.  Evolving alone in a patch of space that is known for being extremely habitable and resource rich by their standards, the Kocasslani regard their sector as literal ‘heaven’ and see any alien presence within as damning.  

Gender has a role within Kocasslani caste systems, but it isn’t as intense as in Unathi culture. Males are simply seen as being more capable at feats of passion and fury, while women are seen as more fitting for administration or the priesthood.  No roles are forbidden to male or female, but social taboos make integration hard.   

Kocasslani are utterly hostile and antagonistic towards Humanity, the Skrell and to some extent other races.  As such, the only Kocasslani on-station would be exiles, missionaries or explorers.

<h3>Transstellar corporations</h3>

These corporations are the main entities in the frontier colonies, and to some extent the inner colonies.  They are massive corporations founded by private interests who lend out their PMCs, manufacture goods, do research and a plethora of other things.  They are privately owned governments, ruling their systems like knights of old, ruling over their fief with little care for those within.  

There are a number of major transstellars, all of which are owned by Humans.  The eight major ones are Nanotrasen Biomedical, Osiris Atmospherics, Einstein Engines, Ward-Takahashi GMB,Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, Hephaestus industries and Gilthari exports.  

<h3>The Empires</h3>

Her government has recently seen a shift, as the isolationist ‘sol’ party has been ousted and the new administration has opened the borders to trade, built-up the military and signed a dozen military pacts with inner colonial empires.  The overall feeling in the Union is that she's heading on a war path, but with who is the question.  A question few seem willing to answer

The Union held firm in these wars, but her back was broken by her childrens' betrayal. Knowing that attempting to stand her ground would warrant a return to the dark ages of the past, Mankinds' government withdrew, leaving all worlds, all humans outside of the 30ly 'safe zone' around Sol to fend for themselves.

However, Humanity is not alone in this vast sea of stars.  The amphibious Skrell, feline Tajara, reptilian Unathi and plant-like Dionaea are but a few of the races of this galaxy.  Some, like these are supportive to the fate of mankind, others apathetic and a select few horrors actively seek their destruction.  Compared to the wroth of your fellow man, these horrors are but mosquitos to the majority of Humanity, as is it widely known. Until recently, the Union has been in a state of collective isolation allowing no trade and no immigration or emigration.  However, the isolationist party has lost power and the new administration has opened up the border to trade, which is centralized in the Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani free trade zones, where traders and transstellar companies can hawk their wares under laissez faire policies (Under the benevolent watch of N.T and the E.F. of course.)

The most common currency in Human space is the Union of Sol credit, which is created and minted by the Union of Sol and it’s constituent territories.  It is represented by Cr (as in 5,000Cr).  While technology is relatively advanced living standards in some areas of the frontier are deplorable, some colonies even exist in a purely agricultural state, completely incapable of reaching off-world.

While Humanity has largely overtaken the Skrell in the realm of colonization, the Skrell maintain a strong confederation of colonies roughly 3/4th the size of the Sol safe zone, making them one of the largest entities in known space.

Aurora, the Tajara are a species fresh out of bondage.  Until very recently the species was enslaved by their own leaders and only escaped with support from Human transtellars and empires.  They are a felinoid species from the cold world of Adhomai in the S’randarr system.  

Their world in the past was generally quite rich minerally and culturally, but decades of slavery destroyed both of those as education was eliminated and entire clans destroyed, and entire mountain ranges excavated to fuel the Overseer regime.  

Both sexes fought equally in the revolt against Overseer oppression, which has earned the females who were previously somewhat oppressed to be elevated to equal in Tajaran society.

The dionaea are a stellar oddity of sorts, each ‘individual’ in-fact being a collective of omnivorous, extremely slow metabolism plant like creatures that in themselves are clusters of smaller organisms.  This race is rather odd as they express a great degree of flexibility in their structure, capable of assuming  hundreds of shapes and sizes.  From an individual nymph to giant ‘hives’ in space consisting of thousands of nymphs.  They were discovered in orbit of a trinary star system by Skrell explorers in 2294, which made it nigh impossible to contact them due to this hostile environment  

Dionaea, are asexual as they spread via seeds. And when in their early ‘nymph’ state, they are known to take blood samples of nearby creatures in-order to evolve and learn quicker than they would without such samples.  As they and the Skrell have the closest relationship, it is not totally unknown for Skrellian civilian explorers to travel in habitat modules encased in a dionaea gestalt.  With these craft, they spread their warbly call across the cosmos. 

Introduced to Humanity by the Skrell, the Dionaea enjoy warm relations with the vast majority of Human empires and governments.

Are a recently created artificial species, engineered and designed by roboticists at Nanotrasen Biomedical.  They have existed for roughly the last twenty years and have only in the last five or so gained any rights or privileges.  After working long and hard in corporate service, and after amassing a large stock of credits, an individual IPC is allowed to purchase itself and buy itself to freedom.  

Gender is pointless to IPCs, though some can and do prefer a certain pronoun to another.  Personality quirks can ensure one acts more ‘feminine’ and another more ‘masculine’. The vast majority however are gender neutral and more mechanical in their personality.  

IPCs have yet to prove themselves as a ‘race’ and as such, command positions are highly restricted to them.  All but the first few models are utterly restricted from command positions, and even these are rare.

Gender has a role within Kocasslani caste systems, but it isn’t as intense as in Unathi culture. Males are simply seen as being more capable at feats of passion and fury, while women are seen as more fitting for administration or the priesthood.  No roles are forbidden to male or female, but social taboos make integration hard.   

Kocasslani are utterly hostile and antagonistic towards Humanity, the Skrell and to some extent other races.  As such, the only Kocasslani on-station would be exiles, missionaries or explorers.

<h3>Transstellar corporations</h3>

These corporations are the main entities in the frontier colonies, and to some extent the inner colonies.  They are massive corporations founded by private interests who lend out their PMCs, manufacture goods, do research and a plethora of other things.  They are privately owned governments, ruling their systems like knights of old, ruling over their fief with little care for those within.  

There are a number of major transstellars, all of which are owned by Humans.  The eight major ones are Nanotrasen Biomedical, Osiris Atmospherics, Einstein Engines, Ward-Takahashi GMB,Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, Hephaestus industries and Gilthari exports.  

<h3>The Empires</h3>

The inner colonies are splintered roughly into three dozen empires, each controlling between 1-12 systems and anywhere from a single to dozens of garden worlds.  They are fractured nations, belligerent and aggressive towards their neighbors.  With living standard generally far below Sol standards as wars have bled their systems dry.  

There are three dozen major empires, a handful of these are as follows.  The United Colonies of America, The Saris Free Trade Zone, Alliance of Halis, League of Draconis, Raksa Pact, Principality of Caladbolg, Confederation of Elyria,The New British Empire, Suzerainty of Tamil and the Royal Republic of New Oranje 

<h3>The Union of Sol</h3>

The once central government of all of Humanity, the Union of Sol is now a shadow of their former glory. Though still the most powerful state in Human space, until recently the Union was an isolationist state licking their wounds after a series of bitter civil wars tore her systems asunder and forced her to withdraw to her current space.   

Her government has recently seen a shift, as the isolationist ‘sol’ party has been ousted and the new administration has opened the borders to trade, built-up the military and signed a dozen military pacts with inner colonial empires.  The overall feeling in the Union is that she's heading on a war path, but with who is the question.  A question few seem willing to answer  

<h2>Shadows in the Darkness</h2>

As previously mentioned, there are those who’d rather not see Nanotrasen turn a profit in the free trade zone.  From the former senators of Tau Ceti angry at their removal, rival corporations envious of N.T.s’ success, the anti-N.T. syndicate and numerous other forces that wish to cripple Nanotrasens’ operations.  

<h3>Traitors</h3>

Tau Ceti is a private fief, one completely open to immigration, emigration and trade of any sort.  This openness, allows allows individuals of less than honest means to insert themselves into the infrastructure of Nanotrasen and her administration.  In the wild-west of Tau Ceti, to the wise N.T. employee, watching your back is a necessity and trust is hard to come by.

<h3>The Syndicate</h3>

A coalition of less powerful corporations, planetary governments, Private military Groups and even a handful of Sol Senators. The Syndicate is an organization dedicated to the destruction of Nanotrasen to repay the lives they’ve ruined in their endless hunt for profits.

Well trained and equipped, the syndicate commandos are a force to be reckoned with.

<h3>The Vox</h3>

An odd species to be sure, the Vox are barely known and even less understood.  With no organized government known of, no clear political or military agenda.  They’re often looked upon as a force of nature, appearing randomly, raiding a colony and vanishing on their lightning fast skipjacks before a response force can arrive.  Their raiders, while not the most intelligent are certainly cunning.

The year is 2456CE (Common Era), and Humanity has spread amongst the stars like a plague, in less than 400 years, Humanity has left crumbling Earth and clawed her way across the stars, more than 100 light years in all directions. Sheparded on this path by the charismatic and effective leaders of the Union of Sol, for more than a century things looked bright for Humanity and her children. Alpha Centauri, Tau Ceti, Sirius, Epsilon Eridani and dozens more systems fell under her possession, nearly a hundred garden worlds in-all. But, the lower nature of Humanity was not vanquished.

 

Rebels across Human space, yearning for the independence their forefathers once held. Rose up in arms for years, bringing war into the hearts and minds of Humankind after a century of peace. The Union held firm in these wars, but her back was broken by her childrens' betrayal. Knowing that attempting to stand her ground would warrant a return to the dark ages of the past, Mankinds' government withdrew, leaving all worlds, all humans outside of the 30ly 'safe zone' around Sol to fend for themselves.   

 

In the wake of the Unions’ withdraw, three dozen ‘empires’ have awoken, clawing their way from single colonies to star-spanning empires covering light years, Humanity had found itself fractured once again.  Beyond these empires lay countless ‘outer colonies’, too weak to conquer each other yet too strong to be conquered.  

However, Humanity is not alone in this vast sea of stars.  The amphibious Skrell, feline Tajara, reptilian Unathi and plant-like Dionaea are but a few of the races of this galaxy.  Some, like these are supportive to the fate of mankind, others apathetic and a select few horrors actively seek their destruction.  Compared to the wroth of your fellow man, these horrors are but mosquitos to the majority of Humanity, as is it widely known. That Humanity is its’ own worst enemy.  

It is an age of progress, it is an age of death an age of war, it is the age of Mankind.  

<h2>The Trade zone </h2>

Welcome to the Tau-Ceti free trade zone, the sole Nanotrasen administered system within the Sol safezone. You are assigned to the N.S.S. (Nanotrasen Science Station) Aurora in orbit of the N.T. run colony world of Beisel.  

Until recently, the Union has been in a state of collective isolation allowing no trade and no immigration or emigration.  However, the isolationist party has lost power and the new administration has opened up the border to trade, which is centralized in the Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani free trade zones, where traders and transstellar companies can hawk their wares under laissez faire policies (Under the benevolent watch of N.T and the E.F. of course.)

The most common currency in Human space is the Union of Sol credit, which is created and minted by the Union of Sol and it’s constituent territories.  It is represented by Cr (as in 5,000Cr).  While technology is relatively advanced living standards in some areas of the frontier are deplorable, some colonies even exist in a purely agricultural state, completely incapable of reaching off-world.  

<h2>Gettin’ Paid</h2>

Tau Ceti, since its’ transfer to Nanotrasen control, has essentially been transformed into Nanotrasens’ private playground in the safe zone.  However, N.T. HQ is far in the depths of the colonies and as such, direct control of their fief is nigh impossible.  Full background checks are  unlikely to turn up much, even with Union assistance as many flood into the trade zone from the barely governed frontier colonies.  This byzantine situation has allowed many unsuitable individuals into high positions as loyalty in this realm is ‘by your word’ and promotions come quick to those who prove capable.

Humanity, the children of Sol or whatever you wish to call them.  Are the most prevalent species in known space, with more territory under their control than all other known species combined.  They are the owners of most transstellar corporations and are generally noted as the most common species in explored space.  Disunited and warring, few meaningful terms can used to describe the species as a whole  

Humanity has largely gotten over its problem regarding sexism by this age, with females being seen as equals to males, though some pockets of stubbornness remain.

Capital of Largest entity:  Subrellek, Qerrbalak, - Nralakk

An amphibious species whose passion lies in the field of the combined sciences, the Skrell are the oldest and most advanced species present on the N.S.S. Aurora.  Their world is covered from pole to pole in massive swamps, bogs and the occasional jungle.  A world where their amphibious qualities are quite well used.  Gender is meaningless to the Skrell, as they don’t have an attachment to sexuality as Humanity does.  Simply being another task taken to ensure the production of children.  

While Humanity has largely overtaken the Skrell in the realm of colonization, the Skrell maintain a strong confederation of colonies roughly 3/4th the size of the Sol safe zone, making them one of the largest entities in known space.

Capital of Largest Entity:Yuesea, Moghes, - Uueoa-Esa

The fierce and warlike Unathi are a reptilian race, a relative newcomer to the stars.  Unlike all other known species, the Unathi are not the first species to live upon their world,  before them came a more advanced race that plunged their jungle world into nuclear fire and turned it into the desert world it is today. 

Unathi have strict gender lines which are well defined and breaking them is highly taboo. Leading to the most sexist society of any known species.

The Unathi are least advanced of all known species, barely capable of reaching orbit, let alone colonizing another world due to their fractured status and infighting.

Capital of largest entity:  Hadii’Tamij, Adhomai - S’randarr

The newest species to the stars to be employed upon N.S.S. Aurora, the Tajara are a species fresh out of bondage.  Until very recently the species was enslaved by their own leaders and only escaped with support from Human transtellars and empires.  They are a felinoid species from the cold world of Adhomai in the S’randarr system.  

Their world in the past was generally quite rich minerally and culturally, but decades of slavery destroyed both of those as education was eliminated and entire clans destroyed, and entire mountain ranges excavated to fuel the Overseer regime.  

Both sexes fought equally in the revolt against Overseer oppression, which has earned the females who were previously somewhat oppressed to be elevated to equal in Tajaran society.  

<h3>Dionaea </h3>

Home System: Epsilon Ursae Minoris

The dionaea are a stellar oddity of sorts, each ‘individual’ in-fact being a collective of omnivorous, extremely slow metabolism plant like creatures that in themselves are clusters of smaller organisms.  This race is rather odd as they express a great degree of flexibility in their structure, capable of assuming  hundreds of shapes and sizes.  From an individual nymph to giant ‘hives’ in space consisting of thousands of nymphs.  They were discovered in orbit of a trinary star system by Skrell explorers in 2294, which made it nigh impossible to contact them due to this hostile environment  

Dionaea, are asexual as they spread via seeds. And when in their early ‘nymph’ state, they are known to take blood samples of nearby creatures in-order to evolve and learn quicker than they would without such samples.  As they and the Skrell have the closest relationship, it is not totally unknown for Skrellian civilian explorers to travel in habitat modules encased in a dionaea gestalt.  With these craft, they spread their warbly call across the cosmos. 

Introduced to Humanity by the Skrell, the Dionaea enjoy warm relations with the vast majority of Human empires and governments.  

<h3>IPC</h3>

Integrated Positronic Chassis, or IPCs for short. Are a recently created artificial species, engineered and designed by roboticists at Nanotrasen Biomedical.  They have existed for roughly the last twenty years and have only in the last five or so gained any rights or privileges.  After working long and hard in corporate service, and after amassing a large stock of credits, an individual IPC is allowed to purchase itself and buy itself to freedom.  

Gender is pointless to IPCs, though some can and do prefer a certain pronoun to another.  Personality quirks can ensure one acts more ‘feminine’ and another more ‘masculine’. The vast majority however are gender neutral and more mechanical in their personality.  

IPCs have yet to prove themselves as a ‘race’ and as such, command positions are highly restricted to them.  All but the first few models are utterly restricted from command positions, and even these are rare.

Capital of Largest Entity: Niisivis, Sonhadra - Hiisnivi

The newest species in explored space, the Kocasslani are a hostile, zealous race with an intense racial hatred towards the Skrell due to an unfortunate expedition taken into their territory.  Evolving alone in a patch of space that is known for being extremely habitable and resource rich by their standards, the Kocasslani regard their sector as literal ‘heaven’ and see any alien presence within as damning.  

Gender has a role within Kocasslani caste systems, but it isn’t as intense as in Unathi culture. Males are simply seen as being more capable at feats of passion and fury, while women are seen as more fitting for administration or the priesthood.  No roles are forbidden to male or female, but social taboos make integration hard.   

Kocasslani are utterly hostile and antagonistic towards Humanity, the Skrell and to some extent other races.  As such, the only Kocasslani on-station would be exiles, missionaries or explorers.
